LGE | The story behind the treat named after a ‘twee-gesig’ politician

The Tweegevreetjie, or Tweegesiggie, is a traditional South African treat often found on tea tables and served at weddings and Eid celebrations.

One half is brown and the other a deep pink, with some suggesting the two colours symbolise racial segregation. Its origins have been passed down through generations.

EWN spoke to 67-year-old Kubra Mohamed, fondly known as the Koesister Queen, to learn more about the treat and its history.
