Banking sector warns against 'money muling' where users rent out their personal bank accounts

The banking sector has warned against users who sell, or allow other people to use their bank accounts, saying they will face the full might of the law.

Local banks have reported an increase in the number of South Africans opening bank accounts that are either rented out or used by third parties.

Customers and consumers have been cautioned against letting others use their bank accounts, even if they are paid in return. Experts say those who do that could be in trouble for helping faceless criminals receive stolen or illicit money.
