Gqeberha’s next chess champion is making good strides to reach the top. The Nelson Mandela University student, Gerald Wagner, is heading to Belgium next month to represent South Africa at the World University Chess Championships. Wagner is ranked number four in South Africa at the student level and is eager to improve his ranking. He’s already represented the national team at the World Youth Championships in 2014 and the African Youth Championships in 2016.
