The Gauteng Liquor Board says there is no requirement for tavern owners to have security personnel at their establishments. The board was responding to recent attacks that left 15 people dead at a tavern in Soweto over the weekend. However, it has stated that such could be considered in the future as the safety of patrons is constantly becoming a big issue in South Africa. Advocate Fati Manamela is the Chief Director of the Gauteng Liquor Board. He joins us to share some thoughts on what these strategies mean for the industry.
