Renowned Cape Town writer and poet, James Matthews, has been honoured as a living legend by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, for his lifetime of achievement in literature.
The nonagenarian, has been described as the people’s poet and freedom fighter for his body of literary works, most of which were banned under the apartheid regime.
The Van Toeka Af Living Legends Recognition Series pays homage to those who have contributed to the literary and cultural heritage in South Africa.
