Informal mechanics in the automotive sector in Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape have stepped up their service offering and business model through a programme that improved their skills and business acumen. The two-year Mdantsane Automotive Mechanic Enterprise Development Programme assisted the participants to formalise their trade by registering their businesses with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission. The Eastern Cape Development Corporation is behind the project and 45 mechanics have already graduated.
