Social grant fraud costs the state R200 million per month: Dr Mimmy Gondwe

The Democratic Alliance says it will be laying criminal charges against public servants who have fraudulently received social grants that were meant for the unemployed. Social Development minister Lindiwe Zulu’s response to a Parliamentary question on Friday revealed that about 3 268 public servants have received government grants at the cost of R200 million per month. President Ramaphosa in September 2021 said finding that thousands of public servants have been illegally receiving social grants shows that South Africa has a long way to go towards instilling a culture of ethics in the public service.
