
The free press matters more than ever and good journalism holds up a mirror to ourselves to reflect on the good, the bad and the true. That was the message delivered this past weekend by U.S. President Joe Biden to the annual White House Correspondents Dinner which honours distinguished journalists in print and broadcasting for their coverage of the White House. Held just days before World Press Freedom Day today. The event also featured South African comedian Trevor Noah, who after delivering a few strong punchlines, lauded the free press as a bastion of democracy.
