Tests confirm outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease at three Free State farms

The Free State Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is investigating a possible outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease at three farms in the province. Two of the farms are in Viljoenskroon. Some farmers procured animals from a farm that tested positive in Potchefstroom and others from an auction that was held on the 18th of March in the same town.
A third farm under investigation is in Frankfort following the procurement of calves from a speculator in Roodepoort.
All the animals bought have been linked to possible illegal movement of cattle from Limpopo, where the initial outbreak was first recorded.
