Curtin University’s Professor Joe Siracusa says Russian President Vladimir Putin is now “playing the longer game”.
It comes after US President Joe Biden said he is ‘convinced’ Russia will invade Ukraine in the coming week.
“Now we’ve heard now for a couple of weeks that a Russian attack is imminent, daily, whatever it is, people must feel that this is a very slow game,” Professor Siracusa told Sky News Australia.
“It takes time, and it’s taking time for the Russians to get their forces into place, and at the end of this two months, Putin is in a commanding position…he wants to win.”
