The Johannesburg Magistrates Court heard the formal bail application of suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi and a Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officer who can’t be named yet. The pair were arrested on Friday in connection with the alleged 2023 theft of precious stones worth nearly R15 million from an apartment in Killarney.
