More than 30 years into South Africa’s democracy, residents of Mafarafara and Ga-Taung near Burgersfort in Limpopo are still risking their lives to access basic healthcare. Frustrated by years of inaction, they built a makeshift bridge over the swollen Tubatse River using wooden logs, corrugated iron sheets and sticks to connect their communities.
