Every year, Africans working abroad send billions of dollars back home. Nigeria receives over US$21 billion in remittances annually. Zimbabwe, Uganda, the DRC, Ghana, Lesotho and others also rely heavily on money sent by citizens living overseas. This conversation asks a difficult question: Could African economies create enough opportunity at home, so their people no longer have to leave in the first place?
