SA Explained | The Disappearance of Mazwi Khubeka | 29 April 2026

Mazwi Khubeka was 27, ambitious, and building a future through his tuck shop when he disappeared.

According to his family, he left on 2 April to deposit rent money and return to open the shop. By late afternoon, the business was still closed, his phone was on voicemail, and nobody close to him had seen him.

Pule Letshwiti-Jones speaks to family spokesperson Delisile Mofokeng about the young man behind the headlines. She remembers Mazwi as shy, intelligent and responsible, someone who once wanted to become a journalist before turning his focus to entrepreneurship.

The family’s account raises difficult questions about his last known movements, alleged pressure around the shop, attempts to access nearby camera footage, and their frustration with how the case has been handled.

As public support grows through calls to bring Mazwi home, one question remains painfully unresolved: where is he?

This is the story of a family searching for answers, a community following every lead, and a missing young man whose life cannot be reduced to a case number.
