The Number of the Day is 0.5 percent. That is South Africa’s GDP growth for the third quarter of 2025. It marks the fourth straight quarter of positive growth, which is encouraging. But as Francis Herd and Aakash Bramdeo explain, the number is still far too low to reduce unemployment or poverty. Treasury still expects around 1.2 percent growth for the year, but that depends on the final quarter.
