Daily Maverick’s Ferial Haffajee invited DA mayoral candidate Helen Zille to join her on a walkabout of Johannesburg’s Queens Road bridge in Fordsburg, a stark symbol of the city’s collapse. With more than 80% of Joburg’s bridges at risk of failure, and drug use and homelessness visible on the streets, Zille used the tour to highlight the urgency of fixing the city’s infrastructure and addressing its deep social crises.
