Avian Flu | Sector not counting chickens before they hatch

There has been no reported case of avian flu this year – but the industry is still recovering from the devastating 2023 outbreak. More than six million birds had to be culled last year, with 30 percent of the industry impacted at a cost of at least two billion Rand. The South African Poultry Association says they are cautiously optimistic for 2024.
