The situation is tense at Phomolong in Hennenman in the Free State where police have been deployed to maintain stability after residents embarked on protest action. At least 35 people have been arrested for public violence since protests began on Tuesday last week. Residents are demanding an operational police station, ambulance services and fire fighting services, among other things. This morning residents barricaded most of the streets in Phomolong with burning tyres and rubble. There was also an attempt to barricade the R70 road. Schooling has been disrupted.
