The Department of Human Settlements in the Eastern Cape is still grappling with blocked housing projects which delay the completion of houses and the allocation of these houses to deserving beneficiaries. In the 2022/23 financial year, the department had 87 blocked house-building projects that would have yielded thousands of houses across the province. Residents have resorted to the illegal occupation of incomplete houses in their desperate need for housing.
