Residents of the JB Marks Municipality unhappy with amalgamations

Residents of the JB Marks local municipality in the North West province allege that municipal amalgamations are often used to achieve political goals. They allege that the decision taken before the 2016 local government elections, to merge the erstwhile Ventersdorp and Tlokwe municipalities to form JB Marks, was an ANC ploy to avoid losing the Potchefstroom-based Tlokwe municipality. These remarks come as the Municipal Demarcation Board is processing over 200 submissions for possible redetermination of municipal boundaries in the country. SABC News Reporter Tebogo Phakedi and video journalist Jabu Oa Afrika filed this report.
