
The police have made a breakthrough in the murder of Mboneli Vesele, who was the bodyguard for prof Sakhela Buhlungu, the vice chancellor of Fort Hare university. Police spokesperson, Brig Athlenda Mathe, confirmed to SABC news that a suspect has been arrested. The investigation into the murder of Vesele also includes the possibility that this was an attempted hit on the life of prof Buhlungu Vesele was shot dead near the house of prof Buhlungu while driving the VC’s official vehicle on the 6th of January. The VC was not in the car at the time. In May last year the fleet and transport manager of Fort Hare, Petrus Roets, was also shot dead in East London while driving home. No arrests have been made in connection with his murder. In August last year the SIU also started investigating allegations of maladministration at the institution.
