Tshwane council to elect speaker: Action SA's Michael Beaumont

A Tshwane council meeting will be convened today to elect a speaker. The position of the speaker was left vacant after the previous incumbent, Murunwa Makwarela was elected mayor. A council sitting on March the seventh to elect a new speaker collapsed when members of the multi-party coalition boycotted it leaving it without a quorum. On Friday Makwarela resigned as mayor after it was established that he had submitted a fake clearance certificate, that he had been rehabilitated following his 2016 insolvency. The new speaker is expected to convene a council meeting soon to elect a new mayor. SABC News reporter Patricia Visagie has been covering this story and is speaking to ActionSA Michael Beaumont. National Chairperson at ActionSA
