A Tshwane council meeting will be convened today to elect a speaker. The position of the speaker was left vacant after the previous incumbent, Murunwa Makwarela was elected mayor. A council sitting on March the seventh to elect a new speaker collapsed when members of the multi-party coalition boycotted it leaving it without a quorum. On Friday Makwarela resigned as mayor after it was established that he had submitted a fake clearance certificate, that he had been rehabilitated following his 2016 insolvency.
