
As South Africa has had to endure rolling blackouts at generally high stages of load shedding this year, there are concerns that a total national blackout could happen. The JSE and other listed corporates have indicated that they’re working on contingency plans for the worst-case scenario. In the interim, the government is pushing to ensure that its Energy Action Plan is effected to resolve the country’s energy crisis, which covers short-to-long-term risks. Recently appointed Electricity Minister, Kgosientso Ramakgopa, has been tasked to work with all energy stakeholders, especially Eskom to rapidly bring down the higher stages of load shedding.
