The Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern Africa, also known as SEIFSA,
released their state of the metals and engineering sector report, reflecting on recent history
and the outlook for 2023. It indicates that the local industry had actually contracted year-on-year
from around 2008, despite government’s industrial policy initiatives. And looking forward to the rest of this year, the federation has raised concerns about a slowing global economy as
