
Government seems set on pushing through a 3% wage increase for public servants. Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, said the hike had been budgeted for and will be processed and backdated to April this year.
But Union Federation Cosatu is demanding much higher. While the 3% was settled on earlier and there was a tentative agreement – workers rejected it. Cosatu has now returned to demanding 10% after the Public Sector Association served government with a seven-day notice of intention to strike.
