Ukraine’s Ambassador to Australia Vasyl Myroshnychenko says the bridge connecting Russia and Crimea is a “strategic asset that had to be taken down”, following a blast which destroyed part of it on Saturday.
Mr Myroshnychenko said the bridge is a “major logistical connection” and supply route for the Russian military in terms of transporting equipment and weapons to the southern parts of Ukraine.
“Vladimir Putin was involved personally into the opening of the bridge – in 2018 he rode a truck through the bridge,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“And of course it is a symbol of Russian reunification or annexation, a legal annexation of Crimea.”
