NASA’s giant Moon rocket has completed a fuelling test that should open the way to it making a maiden flight after fixing a leak.
The rocket could launch as soon as next Tuesday, according to ANU astrophysicist and cosmologist Dr Brad Tucker.
“We’ve been waiting on this fuelling test after the first two times they noticed they had a leak,” he told Sky News Australia.
“They fixed the leak, they did the test, the test worked.”
Dr Tucker said while NASA “technically has the go ahead” to attempt to launch the rocket, a tropical depression heading towards the launch site may cause further delays.
“They’ll be able to call that one probably pretty early given how bad the weather is,” he said.
“If the weather does limit that flight, they have a backup date reserved for the October 2.”
