On the first anniversary of the AUKUS alliance, Defence Minister Richard Marles has flagged the decision on Australia’s nuclear-powered submarines will be made early next year.
The government has all but ruled out a bespoke class of nuclear-powered submarines for Australia and will instead seem to settle on purchasing United States or United Kingdom submarines.
A potential third option is a collaborative design of the three countries.
