'No one in Taiwan' wants to be ruled by China

The Australian’s Will Glasgow says the declaration from Chinese ambassador Xiao Qian confirming Beijing’s willingness to use force to control Taiwan was “huge news in Australia” but not in the island nation.

“The threat of war from the PLA towards Taiwan is as old as the People’s Republic of China,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“That threat, if it was ever acted on, if it was ever successful would be followed by a re-education is just sort of assumed as of course what China would do, of course what the Chinese Communist Party would do.”

Mr Glasgow said it was good an Australian audience heard China’s policy for Taiwan and it was “not at all popular” in Taiwan.

“No one here wants to be ruled by the Chinese Communist Party and why would they?” he said.
