
The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development recently announced that over R19 billion has been spent buying land for restitution purposes, with just over 5 198 594 hectares of land having been redistributed to black people since 27 April 1994. However, challenges remain, there is a lot of land that still lies idle due to a lack of post settlement support, governance issues among land reform beneficiary communities, therefore leading to a lack of appetite for investors to get involved in the land reform programme.
