The high cost of living has left many disadvantaged communities in dire straits. Residents of Phomolong in Bloemfontein say they are struggling to make ends meet. Many are unemployed and the increase in the price of paraffin and food is making matters worse. The latest unemployment rate released by Stats SA for the first quarter of 2022 stands at 34.5%.
