
It’s been a year since South Africa experienced mass looting following the imprisonment of former President Jacob Zuma on the 7th of July 2021.
The unrest resulted in the heavy destruction of property and the loss of over 350 lives.
At least 40 000 businesses were looted, burnt or vandalised in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, costing the economy at least R50 billion. It’s a year since former President Jacob Zuma handed himself over to serve a prison sentence. We take a look back at the events that followed that incident.
