Human Rights Watch accuses SA of failing to ensure abandoned coal mines are rehabilitated

The international rights group, Human Rights Watch, has accused the South African government of failing to ensure that abandoned coal mines are rehabilitated. At least 2-thousand-300 out of 6-thousand disused mines are considered high risk. Communities living close to the mines are exposed to health risks, death, injuries and pollution, among others. Human Rights Watch has released a 45-page report titled – " The Forever Mines: Perpetual Rights Risks from Unrehabilitated Coal Mines in Mpumalanga, South Africa."
