Kholisile Khumalo, an engineer by profession, was bitten by the swimming bug at a very young age but only found his way into a career in the water later in life. In 2016 he started an organisation known as Mzandi Scuba Diving Academy that takes young, underprivileged youth and trains them in everything from basic water safety, swimming and scuba diving. After receiving their recognised certification, many of the young people have moved on to become lifeguards and professional divers.
