Today, 30 years ago, about 45 people were killed in what is known as the Boipatong Massacre.
The victims were allegedly killed by the apartheid police and IFP supporters in the dead of night.
The massacre nearly collapsed the CODESA talks, with the ANC walking out of negotiations after accusing the FW de Klerk government of being complicit in the killings. At the time, it was alleged the Boipatong raid was part of the South African Defence Force operation, ‘Marion’.
