Afriforum’s Private Prosecution Unit will assist a former police officer who was assaulted allegedly by the Deputy Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. The then Police Protection and Security Services officer, who was 11 weeks pregnant at the time, says the assault took place in front of Deputy Higher Education Minister, Bhuti Manamela. Afriforum says it intends to pursue a private prosecution after the charges were withdrawn allegedly because the Manamela’s are considered too high profile.
