As South Africa marks Youth Month, there are calls to ensure that more young women are empowered. In 2019 for example Director-General at the GCIS Phumla Williams argued that the empowerment of women is about dealing with the legacy of apartheid and the transformation of society, particularly of power relations between women, men, institutions and laws. The pandemic has also further compounded many of the issues that women face. So what does the empowerment of young women in the current age look like? We are now joined by Wits University Chancellor Dr Judy Dlamini.
