Some SARS offices open as strike continues

Some of South African Revenue Services’ branches are still open for business – as the strike by SARS workers enters its second day.

But taxpayers who visited SARS offices say the service is extremely slow with only skeleton staff available to assist. Workers affiliated to the Public Servants Association and Nehawu downed tools yesterday – demanding a 12 percent wage increase, a R2000 once-off gratuity and 10 days pandemic leave.

SARS is offering 1.3% wage increase and says this offer is the best under the prevailing socio-economic challenges facing the country.
