The Democratic Alliance has proposed a three-pronged strategy to reduce the cost of fuel. The party wants the scrapping of fuel levy, exemptions to the Road Accident Fund levy for motorists that pay third party insurance claims as well as the deregulation of fuel prices for sellers and wholesalers to allow for competition.
This as there are predictions of a further fuel price increase next week. The general fuel price increase is expected to be up to two rand 36 cents a litre plus the fuel levy is expected to kick in with one rand fifty cents a litre after a two month relief from government. This means the fuel price is expected to be over twenty five rand a litre.
