The Stutterheim-based Amahlathi Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape has issued a notice to its employees, traditional leaders and councillors that it won’t be able to pay salaries for this current month due to insufficient funds. It is not the first time this has happened within the municipality. It faces a number of service delivery-related issues such as poor sanitation and a backlog of the building houses. SABC News has seen a letter sent to the affected by the Municipal Manager, Ivy Sikhulu-Nqwena informing them about the financial situation of the municipality.
