PART 1 | Unpacking SARB's decision to increase interest rates by 50 basis points

The South African Reserve Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee has decided to increase the repurchase rate by 50 basis points to 4.75% per year, with effect from the 20th of May 2022. The reserve bank governor Lesetja Kganyago made the announcement on Thursday afternoon.
