UJ researchers call for the scrapping of load reduction in townships

Researchers from the University of Johannesburg are calling for the scrapping of load reduction. This after the institution conducted a study on the local electricity crisis and its effects on working-class communities like townships. It’s found that load reduction, which predominantly affects townships, has contributed to what it terms energy racism. But power utility, Eskom says load reduction is a mechanism it uses to protect its infrastructure.
