As the Minister of Agriculture prepares to announce her department’s budget this afternoon, the farming sector has welcomed the implementation of the electronic certification system, which will see them obtain e-certificates for their fresh produce for import and export. It is a system they say should hopefully cut through the red tape. More than half a billion e-certificates have been issued so far in the agriculture sector. The e-certificates are an integral part of the inspection clearance process for citrus, fruits and vegetables.
The official announcement of the programme was made this week by the minister.
