Zimbabwe faces a possible grain shortage

Zimbabwe faces a possible grain shortage in 2022 as early indications point to a 50% decline in grain output this year because of poor rainfall and a prolonged dry spell. Projections by the Ministry of Agriculture forecasts total cereal production around 1.75 million tonnes in 2022, against 2.27 million tonnes national requirement.
Close to 5.3 million people in the country are already deemed food insecure as a result of decades-long economic crisis coupled with the impact of the Covid-19. The figure is likely to rise in the next few months
