Russia continues to defend its invasion of Ukraine at UN

Russia continues to fiercely defend its invasion of Ukraine at the United Nations, after the Secretary General again called its actions a violation of the UN Charter and the territorial integrity of its neighbour. UN Chief, Antonio Guterres, told the Security Council on Thursday that the war was senseless in its scope, ruthless in its dimensions and limitless in its potential for global harm. But that did not deter the Russian Ambassador from launching a pointed rebuttal, calling their ‘special military operation’ a proxy war of the collective West with Russia. He also took particular issue with the briefing by the High Commissioner for Human Rights, who detailed alleged violations of international human rights and humanitarian law, during what she termed the Russian Federation’s armed attack on Ukraine.
