Workers' Day | Apartheid exclusion and elite ownership of the economy still with us: Hassen Lorgat

Different political parties held Workers Day rallies around the country yesterday amid the most difficult times in the workspace in South Africa. Cosatu’s official May Day at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in the North West Province was marked by chaotic scenes that disrupted proceedings with workers demanding a R1000 increase bringing up the stalemate between the Cosatu Sibanye Stillwaters Mine and workers’ unions Amcu and NUM.

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa had to be whisked off as angry workers advanced and scuffles broke out and police were called.

Elsewhere in the country the EFF president Julius Malema addressed a workers Day rally at in Mpumalanga, while Saftu Secretary General Zwelinzima Vavi was at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
