More than a quarter of Africa’s population is facing a food security crisis, where millions of families are sleeping hungry every day, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has warned. The crisis spans across the continent, from Mauritania and Burkina Faso in the West to Somalia and Ethiopia in the East. The situation is as a result of conflict, climatic shocks like the drought in the East and Horn of Africa region, as well cumulative poor rainfall patterns in West Africa. Sarah Kimani spoke to Dominik Stillhart, the head of ICRC’s global operations, and filed this report.
