The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) yesterday visited two of the country’s biggest hospitals, the Chris Hani Baragwanath and Charlotte Maxeke Academic hospitals both located in Johannesburg, Gauteng. The Charlotte Maxeke Hospital has been closed since April 2021 after the hospital caught fire, while the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital faced recent allegations of nurses and doctors using their personal money to buy food for patients. The visits form part of the NCOP’s Provincial Week program to assess state capacity in provinces by conducting oversight visits. NCOP DELEGATION LEADER WINNIE NGWENYA
