Residents on vacant land near Esselen Park want evictions halted

Residents living on vacant land near Esselen Park in Ekurhuleni have threatened to shut down entrances leading into the Tembisa township.

If evictions by the Ekurhuleni Metro Police continue, community members, claim they were evicted despite having a court order prohibiting the EMPD from removing them from the land. They say Gauteng Premier David Makhura visited them two weeks ago, and told them to rebuild their demolished structures. But the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department say they are in possession of a high court judgment – giving them permission to evict the residents from that area.
