Communities in Ekurhuleni protest over municipal and electricity issues: Mayor Tania Campbell

Communities in Ekurhuleni are protesting over a string of issues, including electricity shortages. Residents are expected to intensify their protest today by marching to the municipal offices. Some of the issues outlined by residents include a refusal by the municipal office to grant residents a payment plan for all outstanding debt.
Pensioners say they have to get loans to pay bills and to have electricity reconnected and are denied the opportunity to apply for exemption.
They have also been complaining about prolonged power outages.
For more on this, we now cross to our reporter Mbalenhle Mthethwa who is on stand by with the Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni, Tania Campbell.
